PLASTERS

There are hundreds of different types of plaster, from marble dust coarse plaster to very fine, to ultra smooth Marmolino plasters. However, traditional plaster bases are very much the same. Lime based plaster is mixed with fortifier aggregate (such as sand), color and water. Modern plasters however can vary in form from acrylics back down to their traditional base materials. There are also plasters that absorb heat and can insulate a wall to a R5 rating just by applying it as a base coat. This is a great way to insulate an old home without a tremendous amount of invasive and costly construction.  Modern Elements can customize the plaster to properly maintain the integrity of your space.

Venetian plaster is an ancient compound and technique  dating back to the 1st century and a key design technique vastly used in 15th century Italy , that has caught on in modern design for its durability, elegance, very low toxicity and its natural ability to kill bacteria and viruses. This plaster gives you the ability to tint and color to just about any color and most of all its workability enables you to achieve a desired look, texture and sheen.

Tadelakt, a Moroccan word meaning “rub in”. Just as the name implies, traditional lime plaster is applied in thin coats building up into a very earthy, but elegant finish. Once the optimal depth is achieved, a sealing coat is applied. The sealing coat is olive based soap that is burnished (rubbed) in using gemstones. The chemical reaction of the olive and the clay create a natural waterproof membrane. Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms and even baths and showers themselves since it is waterproof.  No other wall finish is like tadelakt  with its deep tones of color it creates an unparalleled elegance. Aside from its beauty, arguably the biggest perk to tadelakt is that it does not contain volatile organic compounds, and its naturally mold and mildew resistant due to its alkaline PH content.
